We’ve been busy with holiday sessions which started in September, and will continue having sessions through mid December. Happy Halloweiner “Dachtoberfest” :: Houston TX Pet Photographer

Busy busy weekend! I have been invited back to the next Dachshund Rescue of Houston event (DRoH), which will be this Sunday10/23 from 1pm-4pm at the Rover Oaks Pet Resort (address: 2550 West Bellfort, Houston TX 77054).

We will be there taking portraits of anyone and everyone who wants to have portraits of their pups (and humans are welcome to be in the portrait with their pup too)! I will also be designing a special calendar for DRoH and will be holding a contest for this calendar (some info here about admission fees for the event and contest info http://www.dachshundrescueofhouston.org/events.php and I’ll be posting more details later).

So be sure to join us on Facebook to stay posted about this contest! The calendar contest is open to all DRoH pups (adopted and current foster dogs), however ALL PUPS are welcome to stop by and have portraits taken for purchase even those pups not affiliated with DRoH (just be sure to keep your pups on a leash!). We will be offering a special discounted rate (for portraits) for all dogs who attend this event. I’ll be donating 100% of calendar proceeds to DRoH (yes that is correct, 100% of calendar sales with my portraiture will ALL go to DRoH! Hey I’m trying to help out these pups!), and 10% of portrait sales will also be donated.

The "B" family was SUPER fun to work with. They were totally up for anything and they all enjoyed their session time together :). I have to admit I was a bit worried before their session because their mom "M" mentioned her boys did not like to have their pictures taken. Much to my surprise they were total pros during their session and giggled the whole time (ok - so i must be totally goofy or something!). M, love you all!

I've known the "J" family for a couple years and it just seems like the kids are growing so fast! The last time I saw them their youngest was just a little baby (and not walking yet!). Love, love, love!

I love working with the "Y" family. They are the sweetest, most loving, down-to-earth folks :). What an honor it is to work with them. They don't have just one major-league baseball player in the family, but TWO - now how *rare* and SUPER-cool is that!?!?!?

When baby "R's" mommy "M" showed up with a bag-full of outfits and accessories for baby R's session, I knew we were going to have fun! We normally have enough time for 2 outfits during baby sessions however we somehow managed to do 4 outfits. It was a fast-paced and fun session, and I absolutely loved baby R's expressions. She is such a happy baby and did so well during her session even considering all the outfit changes! M I'll be posting many more images for you on facebook so that you can tag yourself soon!

Baby #2 will be arriving soon! We are all very excited about the impending arrival of our baby and cannot wait to share with you some images of our little bundle of joy :O).

Our office will be closed now through August 1, 2010; however, we will be returning emails and phone calls. Words I would use to describe this session: giggling, jumping, climbing, exploring, laughing, running - this was one of the sweetest father/son sessions EVER! There was definitely a very special bond between big boy "T" and his daddy. T, at 2 years old and already full of energy, kept us SUPER busy and laughing throughout his session (it was a very special gift for his mommy's birthday!). We had to chase him around countless times to get those perfect shots :O)!

I had a blast capturing little man “T” a couple of weeks ago during his bluebonnet session (finally, I’m able to slow down and catch up with my blogging!). He is turning 2 this month and is on the move – big time! T kept us very busy and moving quickly during his session. The timing was perfect – we had just enough time together to capture plenty of stunning portraits of him plus images that are documentary in style. I wanted to share this sweet close-up portrait of him. I’ll be posting more images soon that truly portray his playful and charming personality.

With that being said, I cannot believe that we are already heading into the month of May! The year is moving fast and we are already booking for September through December, including our popular holiday sessions. So if you are interested in a session during this time, please contact us immediately. (Last year, we started booking holiday sessions in June.) Whether it’s a holiday session, an “anytime” portrait session, family session, baby milestone session, birthday session, pet session, etc. – it’s always better to book your session sooner rather than later!

We've been so busy this Spring, but I'm finally getting the chance to post a couple of session images! Here are some of our favorites from the "O" family session. I met them about a year ago when we did baby "E's" newborn portraits. My, has he grown so much over the last year! He was non-stop during our session at just a year old! His older sister "B" and parents are super fun to work with too.

I hope to post more images soon from other sessions - sweet bluebonnet sessions, milestone sessions, family sessions, etc. - and maybe I'll even have a chance to post a couple images of my daughter :). More soon!

It was such a pleasure working with the "D" family and their 4-month baby girl "A" during her very first custom photography session. People often inquire about various baby milestone sessions, and I love working with 4-month old babies because they are strong enough to hold themselves up while on their tummies, and it's the milestone month right before they start sitting up and growing even more at 6 months. Clients who choose to document all of their baby's first year milestones often schedule a newborn session, then a 4-month session, 8-month session, and the final (and very fun!) first year birthday session. Of course, we have other clients who choose different months or milestones for their babies - which works out wonderfully - because at the end of a year's worth of milestone sessions, we often custom-design a "baby's 1st year" gallery album just for them (which is absolutely beautiful!).

From the moment I met the "H" family, I knew that our session together was going to be fun. Their two girls have such wonderful personalities and both were ready to have a blast during the session. We had so many stunning images of their family, so mom "J" and I carefully selected the final portraits for their new wall portrait gallery display in their home.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year celebration with their family! I've been wanting to share some images of the "B" family session - I took some time and put together a slideshow, I hope you all enjoy it! The B family was a hoot to work with. Their 6 year old daughter "C" looked so precious in her beautiful cardigan, plaid skirt, and cowboy boots. I remember that she seemed a little shy at first, but when I asked her to dance and twirl around her skirt, she did so joyfully :). Their older daughter "M" was just so sweet and easygoing that she made my job a breeze. And look at M's big blue eyes - aren't they just gorgeous!

To the B family - you all are so beautiful both inside and out - it was such a pleasure working with the four of you!

I want to thank all of our clients for a wonderful Holiday season. I truly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you and working with your families. I also want to wish all of our clients and blog readers a joyous Christmas ! It's time to really decompress from work and enjoy some much-needed time off with my family. I hope to catch up on some more session blog shares with you all after the Holidays.

Our office will be closed through the Holidays (including New Year) and will re-open on Monday, January 18th. During this time, we will be checking voicemail and email and responding to everyone's questions and such - please give us at least 2 days to respond to you during our time off.

We had our last Holiday session about a week ago, and now we must focus on finalizing and delivering orders for all of our wonderful clients before the Christmas holidays are here (so that everyone has enough time to wrap up those gorgeous portrait gifts and mail their Holiday cards!). We still have many more Holiday sessions to share with you on our blog; however, our client holiday orders will take priority so you may notice it getting a little quieter around here (sorry little blog, Santa will remember your valiant sacrifice come Christmas morning!). This December, we also scheduled some "non-holiday" milestone and newborn sessions that we hope to share with you after all of the holiday order-processing is completed.

I am so lucky - I get to work with the sweetest most genuine families :). The "S" family was bunches of fun, and they were up for anything during their session!

Their son "C" is 18 months old and full of energy. I was glad to see him at this early stage in life, because as we all know, children grow up and change so fast! From my experience of photographing children, there is such a change between 12 to 18 months, and then from 18 to 24 months. It is so neat capturing these special milestones and seeing the changes in these children's facial expressions and growth.

C is actually a very serious little man. We worked very hard to get these super-joyous smiles. The extra effort was so worth it!

From the moment I met the "S" family I could feel that they had a very special bond. They were all super fun to work with. Doesn't he have the biggest *most* beautiful blue eyes that you've ever seen?!?! Well actually, they are just as beautiful as his mommy's eyes :). Baby "P" has grown SO MUCH over the last 6 months. I met him for the first time when we had his newborn session, he was so tiny (although VERY alert for his age!). When he and his mommy showed up for his 6-month milestone session, I could not believe how BIG he is! Seriously, I think he weighs as much as our daughter Victoria, who is a year older than him :)! We had over 60 gorgeous images of baby P, so I wanted to share one of our favorites with you all. And to the "B" family, I am looking forward to seeing you at your November family holiday session!

A Corporate "Pumpkin Patch" Event :: Houston, TX Corporate Event Photographer Cypress, TX

A corporate event...at the Pumpkin Patch! This company contacted me and asked if I could take portraits of their employees at the Pumpkin Patch during their annual employee/family appreciation event. Of course, I was thrilled to take the offer - everyone was so genuine - and the portraits turned out fabulous despite the fact that we had to start the sessions at "high noon" (the WORST time of day for portraits because of the harsh midday sun being directly overhead -- and not to mention that we had ZERO shade to work with!). It was such an honor to be part of this company's experience! I had so much fun documenting this special day for them.

If you or your company are hosting a corporate event this fall/winter (or really any season), then contact us regarding special corporate rates and packages. We would love to document your corporate event (as always, at the location of your choice)! And it's such a nice treat for employees to have family portraits taken during these sorts of events, because I find that many of these families haven't had professional portraits taken in many years.

I am loving this cooler weather we are having (although I'm sure it's temporary!) - it really gets me into the Holiday spirit! Speaking of the Holidays, our Holiday sessions are in full swing - so call today to reserve your session before it's too late! Today is my Dad's 60th birthday - Happy Birthday Dad! Years ago, I remember thinking about my parents turning 60 and how that age seemed like such a far-away and insurmountable number - yet, here we are. Reflecting back, it feels as if time has flown by over the last couple of decades, but I must say that life didn't feel rushed as that time passed by. There were so many milestones, life happenings, and precious moments that we lived, that maybe the measure of one's life lies within those moments and events, regardless of the time it took to experience them. Nevertheless, "WOW" -- where does the time go?

On a different note, I am back from my family vacation (actually, I returned last week but I've been busily playing "catch-up" with my client orders!). I took some time off in August to travel and truly enjoy some "family time" away from the everyday rigors of work. Life and work have kept us busy and we had not taken a family vacation in quite some time. While on vacation, my husband and I got to enjoy every waking minute with our now 18-month old daughter. We shared many special moments together while on vacation that we will cherish forever - although I must admit there were some challenges associated with travelling across the Pacific with an 18-month old! (I'll save those details for another posting) :) Taking time off can be so invigorating and inspirational with the type of work that I do and it really helps to "recharge" my creative battery.

Okay, enough waxing poetic, got to get back to work with my sessions and I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon!

We are currently already booked through the end of September and are starting to book October through November sessions. Capturing the "B" ladies was a blast! "R", mom of 2 girls, was the most comical lady that I have ever met :)! The girls, "K" and "N", didn't lag too far behind their mom, and they too were hilarious! There were various times that I had to actually stop shooting (my camera) because I was laughing so hard! I'm so glad that we all entertained each other so well :O). What breaks my heart is that I just met them and now they are moving to Switzerland. "B" ladies, I hope that you visit often - I look forward to having another family session with you all soon (and drag your Dad along to the session next time)!

I was especially honored to have this session with them because "R" is a professional photographer and graphic designer herself. I was super thrilled when she mentioned that the images within her gallery (that I captured) were a-m-a-z-i-n-g :).

Their session was filled with awesome images - both portraits and photojournalistic shots. As usual, I have such a hard time selecting just a few to post on our blog. There are also some wonderful individual portraits that are breathtaking, but I decided to narrow it down to 3 fun images for our blog. I love the images below because these ladies' vivacious personalities were captured in the images - to be remembered and cherished forever...

...Reflecting upon this beautiful session that I had with them, makes me wish that I had professional portraits taken of my Mom, Sister, and myself, at this stage of our lives...I would do anything to go back in time, to have just one perfect portrait of the 3 of us, during our early years...

20 year wedding anniversary :: Houston Texas Family and Pet Photographer

When I first started talking to "S" about her upcoming family session with her husband and two pups, she mentioned that they had not had family portraits taken since their wedding almost 20 years ago! I think many of us can relate to this – we wait, and wait, and then wait some more for “the right time” to have our family’s or children’s portraits photographed. Some people wait until their kids' "funny" teeth grow out or until the braces come off, some people wait because they don’t think that their little tykes could ever behave during a session, some people wait because they want to lose weight before they have a session, while some people just wait because their lives are too busy. The issue with waiting is this: life goes on and it stops for no one. Life's special moments and memories are gathered all around us if only we stop and MAKE time to NOTICE them. Otherwise, you may find yourself waiting “for the right time” to have family portraits taken for years and years to come, and then discover to your regret that the perfect “right time” that you hoped for never arrived. Many years will pass by, and then you run out of time to capture those special moments in your family’s or children’s lives. Don't be the "waiter." Instead, seize Life by the reins and enjoy the ride.

I had such a wonderful time photographing the “H” family. S’s husband "J" – what a character - he had me cracking up throughout the entire session. Lately, I’ve had clients who just left me in stitches because I was laughing so much!

When S mentioned that it had been 20 years since she had family portraits taken, I immediately thought that this session is going to be really special and definitely something to celebrate! I came up with some super fun ideas for their portraits – a mix of traditional portraits plus some photojournalistic shots too (some of which involved toasting to their anniversary with chilled champagne which they just loved!). We started the session in their backyard where they had lots of fun with their 2 puppies Ed and Lucy – Ed was such a show-off with his orange toy ring! We then ventured out to the park where S and J enjoyed toasting champagne to their upcoming 20th wedding anniversary – I had so much fun documenting this special milestone for such a wonderful couple.

The H family's gallery of images turned out just beautiful. I know that their children and grandchildren will absolutely treasure their portraits forever and ever! :O)

New Vibe Dance Studio!

This little man was such a hoot to work with! He loves music and loves to dance dance dance!

Speaking of “dance”, his Mommy Beyonka and her business partner Victoria are launching a new dance studio in Cypress called “New Vibe Dance”. You can check them out at http://www.newvibedance.com/ . They are having a preview party and early registration this Saturday (May 30th) from 6:00pm-9:00pm. You all should stop by to meet & greet the owners and dance instructors – and also to check out their gorgeous dance studio! They offer summer dance camp for kids, youth dance classes, adult dance & aerobic classes, and they even have “Mommy & Me” classes for those of us who have little ones!

6 month baby - collage tradition

The “S” family recently moved here from Illinois. Years ago, they started an awesome “6 month collage” tradition with their previous Illinois photographer. With their first 2 children, they had black & white 9 image “details” collages (size 20x20) done of their babies at 6 months of age. Now their third child “W” is 6 months – and they asked me to continue on with this very special tradition (I am so honored!). “W” has the cutest baby curves ever! He is such a happy baby – and such a trooper! Our session was super fun, their 4 year old daughter “C” (who is the middle child – just like I was in our family!) was so helpful and loved assisting me throughout the entire session. I wish I could work with you every day “C” – you were the best assistant ever :O)!

a "walking" milestone

Clients contact us for a variety of reasons to have a custom photography session. Sometimes, clients like to document the birth of their child or a birthday celebration, while others prefer to commemorate special milestones (such as walking!) with a “milestone” session. Oftentimes, families like to budget for annual spring/summer and fall/winter portraits and splurge on an annual hardcover family “storybook” which I custom design for them. And some clients, well, they just want to have a fun custom photography session capturing their children’s personalities at the stage of life they are currently in.

In this session, little man “A” was celebrating a very special “walking” milestone. I was honored when his Mommy contacted me to capture this exciting time in her child’s life. She mentioned that she chose me because she loved the fact that you can see the children’s personalities “shine” through my images. I certainly had a blast during “A’s” session and loved that his Mommy was prepared with fun music playing in the background! :O)

19 years ago today...

A personal note.

19 years ago today, my husband and I first met and started dating (coincidentally, that same year I purchased my very first “film slr” camera and learned to process film in the old-fashioned “darkroom”). WOW – 19 years ago…I’m still in shock! Of those 19 years, we have been married for almost 8 years. We were high school sweethearts and have been through all of life’s major milestones together – coupled with all the highs and lows of any relationship. We have been there, side-by-side, next to each other, all these years: through high-school, our undergraduate degrees and grad school, through “the real-world” and our professional careers, through the most fun wedding celebration ever (our wedding of course! soooo many stories to tell!), through family births, celebrations, illnesses, and passings, and, most importantly, through the birth of our very first child a year ago, our daughter Victoria “Tori” Grace (she is the GREATEST blessing that we have ever received!)

We’ve been together through SO MANY happenings and so many milestones that it’s nearly impossible to recount them all…as you all know, there are many ups and downs in any relationship – but after all these years we have learned that it is so important to celebrate the “ups” and cherish one another each and every day. Happy “Dating” Anniversary honey!

On a different note, I spoke to the nicest gentleman this past weekend, Mr. “U”. He commissioned me to document his 50th wedding anniversary celebration with his family in June. I thought to myself – “W-O-W, 50 years of marriage!” – and congratulated him on his special anniversary. I asked him, “any advice?” He said, “it takes lots of love, lots of dedication, and lots of courage.” Mr. “U” your words were taken to heart. I’m looking forward to meeting you and your family in June and documenting your special event!

Moral of this story…celebrate life….and document it too! :O)

Don't you just love all that newborn sweetness? I feel so blessed to witness each of my newborn client's first few days of life. “P” was such a good baby during his session. He was actually very alert for parts of the session, but then, as all little cherubs do, he would settle down and go back to his newborn slumber. “P” has such wonderful loving parents, you could just see the love exuding from their hearts :O). Capturing Life

I love documenting the lives of children and their parents. Being a custom lifestyle photographer allows me to be creative in ways to capture the "real" spirit of each person. The children's or families' personalities and uniqueness really shine through in the images. I could have many sessions at one location -- with each session being vastly different and unique in its own special way -- because no two sessions are ever exactly alike. It is one of the greatest rewards (and values!) of custom lifestyle photography.

I enjoyed spending time with the "G" family. Their son "J" is 8 months old and TONS of joy. It's obvious why - his parents just love, love, love him!

Children amaze me - they grow and change so fast. I saw "S" about 5 months ago when I had a session with her and her siblings for their Christmas portraits. This time, her session was very special - it was all about "S" and "S" only! She just turned two years old, and I had lots of fun capturing who she is today at this point in her life. The neat thing about it was that she totally knew what my goal was: to photograph her only and to have fun while doing so (she loved seeing her shots on the screen of my camera!). She sure gave us plenty of those sweet smiles of hers! :O)

I met "C" over the holidays when she and her family had their Christmas portrait session with me. Three months later, I also had the wonderful opportunity to capture her "baby belly" -- and more recently -- her newborn session. Isn't she gorgeous, she just glows of beauty! The time has finally arrived! Spring Bloom mini-sessions for children are being scheduled for Saturday March 14th and Sunday March 15th. Don’t miss out on the HUGE savings! We have limited spots available, so if you are interested please call/email us as soon as possible before we are completely booked. Spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors – we offer a nice incentive for scheduled referrals (an 8x10 portrait gift per referral!). The session location has beautiful bluebonnets in bloom.

Our 20-30 minute mini-sessions are for up to 2 children or 1 child and 1 adult. However, if you have more than 2 children, I recommend that you book an extra mini-session so that I am able to capture enough portraits of all your little bundles of joy.

In the midst of the busy holiday season, I had the great pleasure of capturing the “J” family. They are all just so beautiful and are expecting their 3rd bundle of joy :O)! Their daughter “O” is super sweet, she mailed me a crayon colored portrait of ‘my little pony’ after our session :O). I have this multi-colored portrait up in my office, it brings a smile to my face any time I glance at it ;). Thank you O, you are too sweet!

The Sweetest Girl

I recently had the joy of photographing this beautiful little girl, "M", and her family. I thought I would share with all of you an amazing fact about her: she will be earning her BLACK BELT in Tae Kwon Do within the next year!!! Hai-YAH! She has a fierce Tae Kwon Do kick to go along with those stunning blue eyes :O). I believe that the Tae Kwon Do martial arts Code is: help others, respect others, be honest and always stand by the weak. I think "M" will have no problems upholding that motto.

The "H" Family

I know that I haven’t had a blog update here in awhile, but the holiday season is now upon us – that wondrous time of year when thoughts turn to sharing warm family moments, oodles of holiday cheer, and of course, capturing those fleeting memories for a lifetime (that’s where I come in!) – which means that my days are a whole lot busier! Let me tell you about this wonderful family, we’ll call them the “H” Family, that I recently photographed.

Our session started early enough, 7:30am on a Saturday morning, that even the sun hadn’t fully awaken yet. Even though we began at such an early hour, the H Family was ready to go, and boy were they ever the model of early-morning exuberance!!! (I need to ask them where they got all that energy and bottle some of it up to use on my next early morning shoot!)

I truly enjoyed capturing the H Family because they are all very genuine, super-nice people. The session flew by so fast, but even so, we were able to hit all the different locations and scenes that we had in mind and, we even worked in some shots of the family with their three dogs (they are part of the family too!). Overall, it was a very efficient and fun session. I must say that the H Family’s three boys were super cooperative – thank you guys! You all were such a hoot to work with! Finally, I wanted to include a picture of our “unofficial” mascots for the day’s festivities – introducing, the DUCKS ;O)!

A Weekend of 'Greats' and a Thank You

Great Acquaintances. Great Weather. Great Market. Great Weekend.

This past weekend, I participated in our community's local Fall Gift Market and must say that it was a great success -- not just because of the fabulous weather on Saturday -- but because of the quantity and quality of the people that I had the pleasure to meet, whether they were fellow Market exhibitors, residents, or other welcomed guests or passers-by.

A HEARTY 'THANK YOU' goes out to everyone that stopped by my booth and shared your stories, experiences and family with me. I look forward to following up with each and every one of you that showed interest in my photography and, above all, I appreciate the words of praise and compliments that you heaped upon my work. As a photographer, it's those accolades coupled with the knowledge that I'm capturing my client's most cherished and intimate glimpses of their loved ones -- slivers of time caught in an image -- that will proudly be displayed on a grandparent's mantle, a mother's nightstand, or in a proud papa's office for years to come, that really make it all worthwhile. So thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to capture that magic for you and your family.

Hurricane Ike has left the building...

Ok, that was rough. Hurricane Ike pushed north out of the greater Houston-area Saturday afternoon and left in its wake billions in untold destruction and millions of displaced Texans all up and down the Gulf Coast. I can only say that my prayers are with each and every family that was affected by this massive storm system.

It's now three days post-Ike, and we are celebrating the fact that we have electricity again. Once you are deprived of that most precious utility, power, you come to realize the impact its presence has in your life. No power means no air conditioning (our home was absolutely suffocating in the September heat & humidity of Texas' waning summer), no heated meals, no lights to navigate the dark recesses of your home, and no creature comforts that we take advantage of on a daily basis like INTERNET ACCESS and uploading and editing my photography images!!!! Oh, how I missed my PC... :O) Still, even as I write this, over 1.6 million homes in the Houston and Galveston areas are without power, which is about 75% of the power company's total customer base of 2.25 million homes! (We were lucky indeed...)

When you are faced with such a daunting natural phenomenon and powerful force of nature that Ike was, you are forced to make do with what you have and make the best of a really bad situation. For example, our chief concern during the power outage was keeping our baby Tori cool. Like I said, the house was uncomfortably warm, and if we were feeling bothered, then baby Tori was especially not enjoying the inhospitable climate. Luckily, we had one of those old DC-to-AC inverters that you can run electronics from using your car's plugin, and so we were able to run an extension cord from my hubby's vehicle, through the garage, and into the back door of our home where we plugged that cord into a box fan that we had pointed towards our little cherub. Talk about low-tech! :) Fortunately, this mousetrap we rigged up lasted long enough (thank you car battery!) to give our baby at least a few nights' rest until power was restored in the neighborhood.

Of course, while we rode out the storm, it was pretty scary at times, especially when the winds, reaching speeds over 100mph, rattled our windows and shook the house! But overall, the house held up and we didn't sustain any real damage except for some unlucky pine trees (your shade and pine cones will be sorely missed).

Sadly, our neighbors to the southeast in Galveston and surrounding communities didn't do as well. I have included a picture of a beachfront community, Crystal Beach I believe, that was hit hard by Ike. The home you see was the only one left standing after Ike's fury.

The stronger winds are starting....hubby has "hunkered down the fort". He cleared the backyard of any objects to lessen damage, taped down the windows to help shattered glass from spreading, and filled our tubs with water. We are set with emergency supplies...God bless anyone affected by hurricane Ike...

Our sweet cherub is 6 months! Everytime she sits up she gets this prideful look on her face, almost like thinking "wow! i'm doing this all by myself!" She finds sitting very interesting and always examines her surroundings while upright. She has some luscious leg rolls that we adore ;O)!

Our Baby - 5 Months

I say this often, but really, it feels as if time is zooming by - and our baby keeps growing and growing. She does this "tea kettle" sound when she is having fun and wants us to pay attention.
